DTR grippers
The gripper is what holds the skin onto a device
From 2005 to 2023 grippers were made from cut down baby bottle nipples. I did this so people could make there own if they needed to. Unfortunately most of the brands that were used are no longer being manufactured.
These nipple/grippers were something I was never 100% pleased with. I felt they needed to be longer and I also wanted to have two options with grip strength. I wanted a performance gripper for Maximum/Moderate pulling force and one not as firm for Moderate/lower pulling force.
This is a comparison of Nipples that are cut down next to a DTR gripper. These are all 40A firmness.
( baby bottle nipple firmness )
Here you can see the approximate thickness of all three. The Avent used from 2003 to 2008 was the thickest.
How they work
Grippers hold the skin by using pressure and friction.
The more tension the more grip. Much like a “Chinese finger trap” the more you pull the tighter the grip.
The more stress (pull) the more the skin is compressed by the gripper. This is what causes skin fatigue after you have a device on for sometime and why it is important to take quick breaks every so often to avoid any discomfort when using higher amounts of tension.
I tested these gripper using the tug method so I could measure the amount of pulling force used.
You will see me use the phase skin fatigue . This is when you feel the need to remove a device due to skin pressure discomfort when using a tape-less device . 99% of the time while activity restoring you should almost not be aware of it. This is until skin fatigue start to set in. Then I would remove the device for quick break and reinstall it.
The 40A felt much like the older style nipple/gripper that I used when just started using dual tension years ago but much longer. I tested this one for many months and it allowed me make the gains I was able to make years ago do to the amount of force I was able to use that I personally need to make gains.
The 30A I found it to be like the gripper from 2008 to 2023 except its longer and has more stretch since its not as firm as a 40A. This gripper is easier to roll down and is something I should have made years ago.
WARNING!
This is my personal performance testing results using the kind of pulling force I used when I restored. Use your own discretion. Using high amounts of force can lead to injuries … i am a trained crazy person!
40A ( Performance firm hold )
These are the same 40A firmness as the original nipple/gripper from 2003 – 2008ish .
This 40A gripper allows for maximum pulling force.
Pulling force up to 8+lbs before expansion/pop-off. ( very high testing only)
Average 30 min to 2 hours before skin fatigue when using 2 to 4 lbs pulling force on average.
30A (relaxed medium hold)
Much like the nipple/gripper used from 2010 to late 2022 but longer with a more relaxed feel.
Pulling force up to 4+ lbs before expansion/pop-off
1 to 3+ hours using 1 to 2 lbs of force
No real skin fatigue using this moderate tension for hours.
I normally never go past 2 hours without removal because I like to change the skin positioning often.
You can see here that the 30A has more stretch-ability than the 40A.
The difference between the two grippers is easy to feel when you have them both to compare.
The DTR grippers are made from Injection molded Platinum cured Medical grade-class VI LSR.
Made in Maine USA. Manufactured much like a baby bottle nipple.
Durometer is a standardized way to measure the hardness of materials like rubber.
Focus on Shore A scale line
Soft gripper: (10-20A) (self pour non manufactured)
There are a few aftermarket thick soft grippers available online. I found them to be useful when using less stress on the skin. However I found that when I used higher amounts of force it came off to soon. They are much thicker then DTR grippers.
Reminds me of a silicone Toe Guard ..but firmer
If you have thicker skin, a thick penis or are one of those lucky guys that don’t need to use much force to get skin to grow than a soft gripper may work for you. So I do understand why some men like them.
I personally need to use higher amounts of stress to get good growth and this seems to be the case for the majority as well and may be why so many men have good results when they start but seem to slow down after the first 6 months.
Holes in grippers make them a little more flexible and easier to roll down since there is less material.
Some guys prefer the solid gripper so it really may be just a personal choice.
Gripper removal is easy, first invert the gripper so that it’s flipped inside out just as you would if you are about to attach the gripper to your skin.
Pull on the gripper and work it over the collar portion of the DTR Bell.
Continue to work the gripper by stretching it over the collar
Now work the gripper over the nylon screws if they are being used. Grippers will stretch quite a bit so it’s difficult to rip one.
To reinstall the gripper just reverse the process.
Maintenance / Tips
A quick wash with a little soap and water is all that is needed to keep it clean and ready to use.
Grippers can be inverted as show here. This changes the profile and how it holds the skin. Some men prefer to invert the gripper for this reason.
